HOW YOU CAN HELP
There are several ways you can help.
First, please donate. The ELC uses money in two ways. There are operational costs which are minimal, and then the costs of purchasing, matching and maintaining conserved lands. One of the ELC’s current projects, Parkhurst Farms, requires a match of Farm Protection funds (see projects).
You can donate lands or work with ELC to conserve them. Consider the conservation of the old family farm in the family name to preserve farming land. You may own a piece of land that contains remnant forests with a unique history, or a flood plain that is worthy of preservation.
Second, talk it up. If you believe that the Edmond area needs to find a balance between undeveloped and developed lands then talk to friends and acquaintances. In many parts of the country citizens are attuned to conservation, but it is a less discussed idea in Oklahoma. Some see it as a great way to preserve the heritage of the family farm where they grew up, or to preserve land that they see as having a special natural beauty or uniqueness.
Third, spot and refer potential parcels of land. If you know the owner you might refer them to the ELC web site or one of the links that will help them gain an understanding of the purpose and value of land conservation. Don’t hesitate to contact us and we will be happy to share possibilities.
